The skilled Chinese designer, Mario Tsai has also been chosen by Maison et Objet as one of the rising talent awardees for its upcoming edition, which will be taking place from 18-22 January. Today, Wall Mirrors will explore one particular work produced by the designer, the Two Shelves Mirror design, which he designed for the internationally oriented design company, Grado.
Mario Tsai graduated from the Beijing Forest University in Furniture Design and Manufacturing. With a focus on research and sustainability, Mario’s tactile collections offer a clean, modern aesthetic. Sustainability and material research is key; he is committed to reducing excess material usage and improving both society and the environment through his works.
The Two Shelves Mirror is an exploration of spatial dimension by Tsai and while its appearance may look like a simple set of plane geometry, it actually features three-dimensional forms.
Furthermore, the mirror is comprised of a semicircle that is connected by two vertical planes. It has a green structure and steel was the main material used for its completion. When there is a beam of light, the interlacing of the grid makes the shadow on the wall fascinating and interesting.
The side semicircle can be used to hang some handy objects such as umbrellas and towels. The grid part can be used as a shelf when users make them up in front of the mirror. Integrating many functions, this mirror finds the perfect balance between art and practicality.
