Jordan Griska created a stunning design, entitled “Wreck” that is an epitome of originality, luxury and mortality. The artist replicated and sculptured a Mercedes Benz S550 with mirrors. The shimmering car was disjointedly constructed from sections of highly polished pieces of stainless steel. Now, get to know a little bit more about this jaw-dropping creation.
Griska took a 3D of a Mercedes Benz S550 and through manipulation in a digital software, the designer was able to translate the luxury associated with the brand and cars and transform it into a true work of art. The manipulations to the car are influenced by fatality wrecks and online pictures of car crashes, that’s why its structure seems to have crashed into a sundry of stainless steel pieces, and the name of the project says it all.
Griska constructed this piece by using mirrored pieces–precisely laser cut to seamlessly fit together.
To create this piece, the Brooklyn-based artist drew inspiration from several places, including F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” and Andy Warhol’s colored “car crash” serigraphs in an effort to echo a combination between luxury/art and the brutality of a car crash.
His purpose behind this design was to reflect how the automobile industry has peaked to the top while using digital technology and meticulous handcraft to undermine both utopian dreams and reality. With this spectacular yet extremely daunting piece, “Griska captures the dual nature of American culture by contrasting wealth, freedom, and individuality with decadence, debauchery, and tailspin, as flip sides of the same coin.”
